Author & Officer’s Title: Edward Sims, Manager - Major Projects, Economic Development & Tourism
Executive Summary:
Following a request in writing from Southern Queensland Country Tourism, in April 2013 Council gave its “in principle” support for an increase in annual membership fees for 2013-14 of $1792.00 .
This increase is in support of SQCT to win operational funds in direct proportion to its member contributions. Any new funds derived from this process this year will be directed to supporting the 2014 Autumn campaign.
This report seeks Council’s resolution to formally approve the increase and incorporate in its budget for the 2013-14 financial year.
|
Council approves the increase of $1792.00 for the 2013-14 membership year and authorises the Chief Executive Officer to endorse the notice of commitment attached to this report.
|
Body of Report:
Southern Queensland Country Tourism (SQCT) must compete with the other Regional Tourism Associations across Queensland for grants for its operational funds from government. Funds are granted in direct proportion to member contributions, accordingly all local governments in the SQCT, RTO area have been requested to consider an increased contribution.
The requested additional amount represents an increase over and above the 2012-13 membership subscription of $15,206.00, making our total commitment for 2013-14 to $16,998.00.
The approval by Council of this increase in financial support will provide SQCT with a chance of a broader financial base by virtue of potential increased financial support from government , and additional funds with which to promote the region and support advertising and promotional expenditure for the autumn campaign for 2014.
